What the New Normal May look Like

“Rethinking work, workforces, and workplaces involves a shift in perspective – challenging leaders to be bold in the face of uncertainty. A perspective that will be even more important as we push forward in the workforce recovery.”

COVID-19 Workforce Strategies for Post-COVIDRecovery, Deloitte.

There are so many unknowns today on what the workforce of tomorrow is going to look like. How many staff will return? Will we see staggered start times and/or smaller teams in workplaces? Will we see less pantry style services, fewer cafes open, less handling of food, and drink items in the workplace? What does it all mean to Vending machine operators in the workplace? In the USA, there is an interesting debate going on at present on Micro Markets in the workplace – will people want them, or will workers prefer the safety on a vending machine? Will contactless Mobile App ordering become the norm for a vending machine? Or will Australia at least, see the workplace return to a somewhat ‘norm’ with little change?

One point is for certain is new health practices in the workplace will be the new norm. We will need to give confidence to our customers that our cleaning and COVID-19safety measures are the best in the industry and meet whatever standards will be set in the near future.

From a payment perspective, digital payments are becoming an even more important part of the overall value proposition. I believe consumers are choosing digital over cash so they don’t have to handle money, so there is an uptick on the dependence on cashless payments, and the crisis has accelerated this uptake.

The ‘new normal’ will open new opportunities in our industry. Given the steps taken very early in this crisis, we are in a good position to go after these opportunities once we get back to work full-time along with the rest of our country!
